Bishop Marvin Winans and Church Member Clarify Viral $1,200 Donation Misunderstanding

Bishop Marvin Winans and Perfecting Church member Roberta McCoy have spoken out following widespread online discussion surrounding a recent viral video. The clip, which circulated across social media this week, shows Bishop Winans' reaction after a church member and her son donated $1,200 instead of the $2,000 contributed by others during a church fundraiser.
In an interview with ABC 7 Detroit, McCoy - who has been a devoted member of Perfecting Church since 2013 - explained that while Bishop Winans did "correct" her during the moment, she was not rebuked or disrespected. "It wasn't what people thought," McCoy shared. "I understood the situation and Bishop Winans' heart. There are no hard feelings."
Following the video's circulation, Bishop Winans faced public criticism from viewers who perceived his remarks as insensitive, while McCoy herself became the subject of online attacks. Both have since spoken privately, and Bishop Winans has personally apologized to McCoy.
McCoy emphasized her continued commitment to the ministry, stating, "I plan to remain at Perfecting Church and continue to support Bishop Winans and the work of this ministry."
Bishop Winans and Perfecting Church expressed gratitude to their members and supporters for their understanding and prayers, reaffirming their shared commitment to serving the Detroit community with love, integrity, and excellence.
