Jelly Roll Responds to Forrest Frank’s Decision to Skip Award Shows

A conversation about faith and fame is making headlines in the Christian and country music communities after artist Forrest Frank announced that he will no longer attend award shows, including the Dove Awards. Frank, who was nominated for seven Dove Awards this year, explained his decision as a matter of spiritual conviction, stating that earthly trophies pale in comparison to eternal reward.
"I'm convicted, personally, that a line that I can draw is that I will not receive a trophy for something that is from Jesus and for Jesus," Frank said. "The trophy is that my name is listed in the Book of Life, and I get to have eternal life."
In response, country star Jelly Roll weighed in on social media, questioning the consistency of Frank's stance. "Won't receive trophy for something from Jesus for Jesus but will take the profits from something from Jesus for Jesus ... Maybe I'm missing something here lol," Jelly Roll wrote.
The exchange has ignited debate across Christian and mainstream music circles about the intersection of faith, recognition, and commerce. While Frank emphasized his desire to keep his art free from worldly accolades, Jelly Roll raised questions about balancing humility with practical realities in the music industry.
At the heart of the discussion is a broader tension: how Christian artists navigate honoring God through their gifts while engaging with an industry that celebrates success through awards, sales, and recognition.
As the Dove Awards approach, this conversation underscores the diversity of thought within the faith-based music community and invites reflection on what it means to create music "for Jesus and from Jesus" in today's culture.
