Don Koch Receives Another GMA Dove Award Nomination in the Midst of his Fight with Cancer
Label co-founder, songwriter, and producer Don Koch has received yet another GMA Dove Award nomination. Koch is recognized for writing "Child Of The King," which he co-wrote with Dave Clark and Joseph Hadebank, who also recorded the song, nominated for Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for the upcoming 53rd Annual GMA Dove Awards.
Koch is also currently fighting a battle against cancer. Earlier this year, he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and now the doctors have also discovered that he has a tumor in his brain (he was never a smoker). His wife is asking readers to pray. "We want to let you know that in April Don Koch was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and now there is also a tumor in his brain (he was never a smoker). We are coveting your prayers for Don and our family as we walk down this road. His doctors aren't terribly optimistic about his recovery, but we believe that God has the final say in everything that touches our lives.
"Please join us in praying for total healing and that God will be glorified through this. If you pray for Don, would you consider sending us a note or card in the mail? I will put them up on our wall as a tangible reminder for him that we are covered in prayer."
Koch was celebrated last month for his 36+ years of work in the industry at a benefit held in his honor at The Bluebird Cafe. Artists such as Charles Billingsley, Greg Long, Jody McBrayer, and many others attended to share their fondest Don Koch songs and stories. Find out more about how you can help HERE.
Koch signed his first publishing deal with Benson Record Company in 1986 and went on to write 38 No. 1 songs. Some of his best-known hits include "In Christ Alone," "Mercy Said No," "Adonai," "Mercy Came Running," "Jesus Saves," and "Land of Mercy." Koch became a successful Publisher and record producer, working with artists such as 4Him, Newsong, Avalon, Charles Billingsley, Al Denson, Dallas Holm, and Matthew Ward, among others.
