Pray for U.S. Missionary Kevin Rideout, Kidnapped in Niger

Kevin Rideout

The global Christian community is calling for urgent prayer following the kidnapping of U.S. missionary pilot Kevin Rideout, who was abducted from his home in Niamey, Niger, late Monday night (October 21).

Rideout, a long-time missionary pilot with SIM International, has served in West Africa for more than a decade, supporting ministries and humanitarian operations across the Sahel. Reports indicate that three armed men entered his residence-located near the presidential palace-before taking him at gunpoint. His phone was later traced to an area north of Niamey where militant activity has been reported.

At this time, no group has claimed responsibility, and authorities from both Niger and the United States are working closely to determine Rideout's whereabouts and secure his release. SIM International has requested ongoing prayer for Rideout's safety and for the comfort of his family and colleagues.

"Kevin's heart for service has touched countless lives in Niger and beyond," a spokesperson for SIM said. "We are praying and trusting God for his safe return, and we ask believers everywhere to join us in lifting him up."

The kidnapping underscores the growing instability in the Sahel region, where extremist violence and insurgent activity have placed missionaries, aid workers, and local Christians at increasing risk. Despite these challenges, SIM and other ministries remain committed to sharing the hope and peace of Christ in the region.

How to Pray

  • For Kevin Rideout's safety and peace, that he will sense God's presence and protection.

  • For his captors, that they may experience the transforming love of Christ.

  • For his family, that they be strengthened and comforted during this uncertain time.

  • For those negotiating his release, that God will grant wisdom, unity, and success.

  • For the Church in Niger and across the Sahel, that it may continue to shine with courage and faith amid persecution.

"Even in the darkest valley, the Lord is near," said an SIM field leader in Niger, referencing Psalm 23. "We continue to trust in His sovereign hand and pray for light to break through this darkness."
