Pastor Frederick Haynes III Cleared To Return To The Pulpit After Medical Leave

Friendship-West Baptist Church has announced that its longtime senior pastor, Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III, has been medically cleared to return to the pulpit following a temporary leave of absence due to health reasons.
In a letter sent to members this week, church leadership expressed gratitude and excitement over Pastor Haynes' recovery and return to active ministry. "We thank God for His healing power and for restoring our beloved pastor," the letter read. "Dr. Haynes has been cleared by his doctors to resume his pastoral duties, and we look forward to welcoming him back to the pulpit."
Pastor Haynes had announced his medical leave in September 2025 following an undisclosed diagnosis. Out of respect for his privacy, the church has not released details of his condition. During his absence, church operations and worship services continued under the guidance of associate ministers and staff leadership.
In a video message posted to the church's official YouTube channel, Dr. Haynes personally thanked the congregation and community for their prayers, love, and support throughout his recovery. "God is faithful," he said in the brief message. "Your prayers have lifted me and my family more than words can express. I am excited to be back, stronger and more grateful than ever."
Dr. Haynes has faithfully served as senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, for 40 years, leading the congregation through remarkable growth and outreach. Known nationally for his dynamic preaching, social advocacy, and commitment to justice and community transformation, Haynes has also been a respected voice in both spiritual and civic arenas.
Members and supporters are expected to gather this Sunday for his first sermon back since his medical leave, which the church has described as "a celebration of healing and faith."
