Christian Leaders Respond with Aid, Prayer, and Compassion to Texas Flood Tragedy

In the aftermath of the devastating floods that swept through Central Texas over the July 4th weekend, Protestant leaders and churches across the nation are joining hands in prayer and action, offering comfort, aid, and the hope of Christ to those affected.
The disaster, which severely impacted Kerr County and claimed the lives of more than 100 people-including young girls at a Christian summer camp-has prompted a wide-scale response from faith communities.
Franklin Graham, President of Samaritan's Purse, announced that the organization has deployed disaster relief units to Texas to assist homeowners with cleanup efforts. "Our hearts are broken for the families who lost loved ones," said Graham. "We are in Texas not only to provide physical help but also to remind people that God has not forgotten them. He is with them in their darkest hour." Samaritan's Purse volunteers are currently on the ground in Kerrville and surrounding towns offering debris removal, home repair, and spiritual care.
Beloved Texas pastor and author Max Lucado issued a heartfelt video message from his home in San Antonio: "This is our moment, Church. To rise up in compassion, to grieve with those who grieve, and to serve in the name of Jesus. These waters may have overwhelmed communities, but they cannot wash away the love of God." Lucado's home church, Oak Hills Church, has organized a prayer and supply drive for flood victims and is partnering with regional ministries for ongoing support.
Texas Baptists, through their disaster ministry Texans on Mission, have deployed teams to deliver meals, assess damage, and minister to those in shelters. "We want Texans to know they are not alone," said Tom Beam, Director of Disaster Relief. "We are here to serve, support, and pray alongside you."
The Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church has launched a Guadalupe Flood Relief Special Offering, directing 100% of gifts to those in need. The denomination's relief arm, UMCOR, is coordinating long-term recovery and spiritual care efforts in the region.
Numerous local congregations are acting swiftly. Cross Kingdom Church in Kerrville has transformed into a temporary shelter and food center. First Methodist Church in Breckenridge, in partnership with area churches, is collecting and delivering "Flood Buckets" to homes devastated by rising waters.
As part of a united spiritual response, Governor Greg Abbott declared Sunday, July 6, a Statewide Day of Prayer. Congregations across Texas gathered to mourn the dead, pray for the missing, and intercede for recovery workers.
