Judah Smith Appears on Lana Del Rey's New Album

Judah Smith, the Lead Pastor of Churchome (formerly The City Church) in Seattle, Washington, appears on a track on Lana Del Rey's ninth studio album, Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard, which was released last week to general acclaim. The track "Judah Smith Interlude," which features a four-and-half-minute recording of a sermon from the titular pastor.
"Judah Smith Interlude" opens with melancholy piano music, which plays throughout. People applaud, and then Smith's voice can be heard, exhorting his congregation to "quit lusting after your neighbor. That's a heck of a life." In the interlude, Del Rey and her friends can be heard giggling and making snide comments in the background as Smith addresses a wide range of topics, from the sin of lusting after one's neighbor to the question of why God bothers with "puny, mortal men."
"And you're not gonna like this, but I'm gonna tell you my truth," Smith concludes, addressing God. "I've discovered my preaching is mostly about me."
In a December 2022 letter Del Rey wrote announcing her new album, she thanks those who contributed to it, including "Judah and Chelsea Smith for giving me good guidance even when they don't know they're giving guidance and for letting me record a part of his sermon for this record." Churchome has a location in Beverly Hills and is known for attracting celebrities such as Justin Bieber.
This isn't the first time Smith has been featured on a major album. In 2021, he also appeared on Justin Bieber's EP Freedom.
