Matthew West Reflects Upon 2021 & Prays for the New Year
Multi-GRAMMY nominated artist Matthew West rings in the new year with a reflective message about 2021 and a prayer for 2022. Reflecting upon the year passed, West admits that the year has been trying. Yet, every moment deserves to be cherished and lived.
West writes, "2021 was the year of No What Ifs! I want that to be said of my life every year. It was also the year of letting the truth be told. And truth be told, just like 2020, this year has tested all of us. These past couple years have reminded me that life is precious. Every day is a gift not to be taken for granted.
We've lost friends and loved ones and have been reminded that this world is not our home. Thank God for the promise of Heaven. I've discovered time and time again that hope in Christ truly is an anchor for our souls even in hard seasons. Through it all, I have seen God's goodness, and I'm excited to see what God has in store in the new year. I'm excited for more touring and chances to worship with you all!"
He then offers an encouraging prayer for 2022. "Lord, thank you for a new day! How good of God to fill these lungs with breath once more. The thought that the King of the world might have me on Your mind floods my heart with gratitude.
I look over my shoulder and see the fingerprints of a faithful God who has carried me through a hard season. I look in front of me and see a new chapter with blank pages waiting to be filled. Help me run my race with all I've got, fixing my eyes on You, the author and finisher of my faith. No regrets and no what ifs.
Teach me to love well, give big, and lead humbly. Remind me that my real greatest hits aren't songs on the radio, but the moments when I love others the way You call me to.
Lord, teach me to hold tight to kingdom things and let go of lesser things. Help me remember that Jesus is better than anything this world has to offer. And in the end, let it come down to this: My Story, Your Glory. Amen."
West is a five-time GRAMMY nominee, a four-time ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter/Artist of the Year winner, and a 2018 GMA Dove Award Songwriter of the Year (Artist) recipient and has two RIAA® Gold-certified and an RIAA Platinum-certified singles. He has received an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, a K-LOVE Fan Award, and named Billboard's Hot Christian Songwriter of the Year. West also received a Primetime Emmy® Award nomination for Original Music & Lyrics for the title track for the feature film "The Heart of Christmas."
