Twilight Film Series To Tell Each Popular Character Stories via Facebook, Helmed by Female Directors
The much loved book series- turned-movie adaptation Twilight Film Series is back! Yes you heard it right. Twi-fans are in for another great treat.
According to The Guardian: Lionsgate will release episodes titled The Storytellers - New Creative Voices of The Twilight Saga, via Facebook, which will be backed by Women in Film organisation. It has been said that each episode will focus on one popular character of the highly famous vampire-human-werewolf romance.
This project is a boost to all female directors because of increasing criticisms over the years. Kathryn Bigelow, the award-winning director of the movie, The Hurt Locker, was an exception.
Directors of the Twilight Film Series episodes has yet been announced as it will be chosen by a group of Judges that includes Stephenie Meyer, the author of the best selling book, and Bella Swan, Kristen Stewart.
In a global study recently, it would seem that Hollywood is still allowing gender discrimination by failing to find strong roles for women on the big screen. This global study is backed up by the United Nations. In related news, a 2013 report commissioned by the Sundance film festival, suggested that there is a struggle for female directors to join mainstream Hollywood as most of them are inclined to independent films. Also, in another survey, 75% of crews for big budget and blockbuster films are males.
According to Meyer, "The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I've worked in the film industry".I'm honoured to be working with Women In Film, Lionsgate and Facebook on a project dedicated to giving more women a chance to be heard creatively."
She continued, "More people than ever before are creating, discovering and engaging with videos on Facebook," added Facebook's Dan Rose. "This collaboration with Stephenie Meyer, Lionsgate and Women In Film is a great opportunity to engage 'Twilight's' massive global audience on Facebook through an innovative premium video program."
The Twilight film series had amassed more than $3 billion at the global box office
