The Mindy Project Season 3 Premieres September 16, Scandal Creator Shonda Rhimes Will be Making a Cameo Appearance, Plus Expect More Mindy-Danny Romance!

The Mindy Project Season 3 air date is set and secure, much to the relief of fans. According to Fox, The Mindy Project Season 3 premiere is now a go for September 16, and it will have as guest stars Rhea Pearlman as Danny's mother, along with Allison Tolman and Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes in a cameo.

The Mindy Project Season 3 Episode 1 - entitled "We're A Couple Now, Haters!" - will be taking off shortly after Mindy and Danny's grand kissing scene at the top of the Empire State building at the grand ending to The Mindy Project second season finale. In the first teaser trailer for the third season released by Fox, it shows Mindy and Danny about to have sex for the first time, but can't seem to, because Danny, being who he is, just won't stop talking.

Mindy Kaling, star and creator of the show, says that for season 3, the Mindy and Danny TV couple will be drawing inspiration from the Lucy/Desi couple of the "I Love Lucy" show as well as the Claire/Phil couple of "Modern Family."

The Mindy Project is one of Fox' most critically acclaimed and highly rated TV shows thanks to Mindy herself. About the character she created for herself on the show, she told E!, "I don't think about it a ton, but I was surprised by how much not just men, but also women, felt like they wanted her to be less selfish. Because the show has this romantic aspect to it, Mindy Lahiri can't be as edgy as I thought at the beginning."
