Samsung Announces New Phone: The Samsung Galaxy Alpha

With the imminent launch of Apple's iPhone 6 next month, smartphone rival Samsung will launch their new Galaxy phone, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha.

The South Korean company boasts their new phone as the next leap forward to advancing the Galaxy phones. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is now designed with a metal frame, curved corners, and tactile back cover. The new smartphone features a 4.7-inch HD AMOLED display, comes with the dimensions of 132.4x65.5x6.7mm, and weighs 115 grams. The new phone will run the latest OS from Android in the form of the 4.4.4 Kitkat. An octa-core chipset with quad-core 1.8GHz and quad-core 1.3GHz powers the processing of the new phone. Another variant will carry processor with the speed of 2.5.GHz. In terms of storage, there is 2GB of Ram and 32GB of built-in storage that will not be expandable. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha also supports LTE Cat.6 which would mean it can have download speeds up to 300mbps. Like the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Samsung galaxy Alpha will also come with a fingerprint scanner. The device will carry a 1860mAh battery, which is even smaller than the Samsung galaxy mini's 2000mAh battery. An estimate of the battery life of the phone has not yet been given, but it will come with Samsung's Ultra power Savings Mode which will help in extending the phone's battery life.

The camera will feature a 12-megapixel main camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. In terms of other available connectivity for the phone, it will feature Micro-USB, Wi-Fi, GPRS/EDGE, 3G, and Bluetooth. At the launch of the new phone, it will be available in 5 colors, which are: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver, and Scuba Blue.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha will be available starting September in 150 countries and is rumored to be priced at $689 (off-crontract).
