DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry Bring a Modern-Day Spin on a Biblical Story With Netflix’s "Ruth & Boaz"

Netflix, in partnership with producers DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry, is set to premiere Ruth & Boaz, a modern retelling of the beloved biblical love story, on September 26, 2025. This film marks the first project under Franklin and Perry's multi-year collaboration with Netflix, dedicated to creating uplifting, faith-based stories for a global audience.
Directed by Alanna Brown (Trees of Peace) and written by Michael Elliot (Brown Sugar) and Cory Tynan (Play'd), Ruth & Boaz transports the classic story to contemporary Tennessee. The narrative follows Ruth Moably (Serayah McNeill), a rising hip-hop star who, after a personal tragedy, moves to Tennessee and cares for her late boyfriend's mother, Naomi (Phylicia Rashad). There, she unexpectedly finds love with Boaz (Tyler Lepley), a local businessman, navigating faith, family, and the power of new beginnings.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring music legends Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Jermaine Dupri, and Lecrae, adding depth and a dynamic musical layer to the storytelling.
Ruth & Boaz combines romance, faith, and modern storytelling, offering audiences a fresh, relatable take on a timeless narrative.
