Michael Tait Accused of Watching Woman Raped During Newsboys Tour

Alarming new allegations have emerged against Michael Tait, the longtime lead singer of Christian rock band Newsboys and member of DC Talk, intensifying the crisis already surrounding the artist. A woman known publicly as "Nicole" has accused Tait of watching silently as she was raped during a 2014 Newsboys tour-an incident she alleges followed Tait drugging her drink at a hotel bar. This follows multiple other accusations of sexual misconduct and substance abuse that have recently come to light.
According to the woman, who spoke publicly through The Roys Report, the assault took place after a Christmas tour stop in Fargo, North Dakota. Nicole, who worked backstage during the tour, claims she blacked out after Tait handed her a drink, and later regained awareness while a crew member, Matthew Brewer, was sexually assaulting her in a hotel room-while Tait reportedly watched without intervening. She has cited hospital records, a contemporaneous police report, and hotel security footage as supporting evidence.
This latest revelation compounds a wave of earlier accusations. On June 4, three men came forward accusing Tait of drug-facilitated sexual abuse spanning from 2004 to 2014. In response, Tait posted a written confession on June 10 titled "My Confession," admitting to a hidden life of cocaine and alcohol abuse and "unwanted sensual advances" made toward men over the course of decades. While he did not directly address Nicole's accusation, he characterized many of the broader claims against him as "largely true" and stated he had sought treatment and left the band's touring schedule.
The fallout has been swift and far-reaching. Christian radio networks, including K-LOVE, have pulled Newsboys and DC Talk songs from rotation. The remaining members of Newsboys issued a statement expressing sorrow and condemnation, while urging other survivors to come forward. The alleged assailant, Matthew Brewer, has denied wrongdoing, maintaining that any interaction was consensual and that he was unaware of any criminal investigation until recently.
Michael Tait has not responded publicly to Nicole's specific claims. Law enforcement agencies have not confirmed whether any new charges are being pursued at this time.
This developing situation has sent shockwaves through the Christian music community and raised urgent questions about accountability, institutional silence, and the care of survivors. As more voices come forward, the broader industry faces increasing pressure to reckon with a culture long criticized for protecting platform over people.
