The Whispers Release Gospel Track “In The Name of Jesus 24”
The legendary R&B group, The Whispers, known for classic R&B tracks such as "Keep on Lovin' Me," "Rock Steady" and "And the Beat Goes On," have released a new gospel track, "In The Name of Jesus 24" (Kingdom Records). The track attracted 40,000 first week digital streams and is available at the platforms listed here: https://ingrv.es/in-the-name-of-jesus-sg2-w
"In The Name of Jesus 24" was composed by one of The Whispers' longtime tunesmiths Kevin Williams (son of sitcom TV star Robert Guillaume of "Benson" fame), Janice Marie Johnson (bassist and half of the duo, A Taste of Honey, of "Boogie Oogie Oogie" fame), and Ralph Hawkins (who's written songs for Eddie Murphy and Bobby Womack). The danceable cut follows in the dance steps of The Whispers' Maurice Joshua remixes of "Praise His Holy Name" that earned them a million new digital streams in 2022.
The 24 edit is a warm and inviting rhythm that swings with a churchy organ, a beefy bass line, and sophisticated disco-styled strings. It's a danceable love song to the All-Mighty. It was originally released, on the group's Thankful album that peaked at No. 3 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums sales chart and spent 45 weeks on that survey in 2009. The new edited and remastered track is a perfect message and groove to open the year of 2024.
Over the last 60 years, The Whispers have been urban music mainstays with 45 Billboard R&B chart hits. That includes 15 Top Ten hits and two No. 1 smashes with "And The Beat Goes On" (1980) and "Rock Steady" (1987). Aside from their up-tempo classics, they are also known for their smooth soul cuts like "Is It Good to You," "Lady," and "Olivia (Lost and Turned Out)." The former quintet is now a trio of twins Wallace (aka Scotty), Walter Scott, and Leaveil Degree. In 2000, Marcus Hutson passed of prostate cancer, and in 2016, Nicholas Caldwell died of congestive heart failure. Visit https://thelegendarywhispers.com/home for news on the Whispers.
