Phil Wickham Describes the Thrill of Hearing His Song "Hymn of Heaven" in Church
Worship leader Phil Wickham received a big surprise when he attended a church to worship on Sunday. Wickham and his family returned to their home church to worship as regular attendees. Halfway through the service, Wickham hears the entire church singing to the title track of his new album "Hymn of Heaven."
Wickham tells the story on social media himself. "I attended my home church here in Encinitas, CA yesterday morning. I wasn't leading worship, just enjoying attending with my fam. A few songs into the set, the worship leader began singing this song. Needless to say I was trying my best not to look like this. So moving joining with my church fam in singing about our collective desire to see Jesus face to face and our collective Hope of Heaven.
It's amazing to me how God has created this global family knit together by the work of the cross and the empty grave. All from different countries/cities. All of us with same eternal country/city. My wife Mallory leaned over and said, "this one is just special isn't it". Hope it's blessing you guys like it has blessed me!
Wickham is deeply thankful to god for inspiring him to co-write this new anthem for the church. "So thankful for the song "Hymn Of Heaven". Such a perspective changing/head-lifting song for me."
Wickham's newly released album Hymn of Heaven encompasses 13 songs, including his multiple-week No. 1 hit "Battle Belongs." The album is the follow-up to his 2018 release Living Hope, which features the RIAA Gold®-certified single and GMA Dove Award for "Worship Recorded Song of the Year" of the same name. At press time, Hymn Of Heaven is topping the iTunes Christian Album Chart and No. 7 on the overall iTunes Album Chart.
