Watch the Trailer for Lifetime's Whitney Houston Biopic
The Lifetime TV channel will be releasing a biopic on Whitney Houston, directed by actress Angela Bassett. The biopic will air on January 17 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
The movie will trace the rise of Whitney Houston from a church girl to an international superstar and her marriage and divorce to Bobby Houston. Yaya DaCosta stars as Houston, while Arlen Escarpeta plays Brown and Mark Rolston is music exec Clive Davis. The project marks Angela Bassett's directorial debut.
Whitney Houston is the most awarded female entertainer. Ever since her debut album "Whitney Houston" in 1985, Houston had won the hearts of he world with immortal songs such as "Saving All My Love for You," "All the Man that I Need," "So Emotional," "Greatest Love of All" and many others. She has amassed for herself 11 Billboard Hot 100 #1 hits. And her hit the Dolly Parton-written "I Will Always Love You" stayed on the chart at #1 for 14 conservative weeks. Her song "Exhale (Shoop, Shoop)" was one of the few songs in history to debut at the #1 position.
Even during her bout with drugs and a troubled marriage, Houston never gave up. She went on to star in top grossing movies such as "The Bodyguard," "Waiting to Exhale," "Preacher's Wife" and her last project "Sparkle." In 2009 she made a successful comeback with her #1 album "I Look to You," an album that produced the #1 Dance hit "Million Dollar Bill." Songs from that album such as the Diane Warren "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" and R. Kelly's "I Look to You" have became her latter day classics.
Whitney's first live album has just been released recently. It has gotten a rave review here at hallels, remember to check out our review:
