Brooke Burke Cancer 2014 Surgery And Scar: The Dancing With The Stars Co-host Opens Up About Her Thyroid Cancer Experience

We have some news for you on Brooke Burke's Cancer surgery after her experience with thyroid cancer. The former "Dancing with the Stars" co-host-Brooke Burke-Charvet appeared on the cover of the shape magazine and gave details about her recent battle with cancer in a tell-all interview. Burke, 42 years old, had long been a symbol of healthy living and the beauty that comes with it. Now more than ever she advocates for regular check-ups because were it not for this, she couldn't have realized on time that she had cancer.

The "Dancing with the Stars" co-host has been having regular check-ups for 10 years since she has been suffering from the Hashimoto's disease, which is a common cause of hypothyroidism. She said that her diagnosis for cancer was not from a regular specialist, but a general practitioner. She said, "The condition wasn't even diagnosed by a thyroid doctor during a regular check-up. They found a questionable lump. Then I got an ultra-sound and biopsies, and sure enough, it was cancer. But the prognosis was great. They took it out, it's all gone, and it's all good. I started working out the day I was allowed to. That's just me. I feel better after my workout for a million reasons."

ABC News has reported that Burke eventually had a thyroidectomy, which seems to have taken cancer out of her system. She advises other women following her life-changing experience: "Care for yourself, especially as you get into your 40's. Always get annual physicals and mammograms." She adds, "It's so important, when you get any alarming news, to do research, get a second opinion, and not panic."

Burke said that she had tried to avoid direct sun after her surgery and she has no scar now, but she is still making adjustments to her thyroid medication. Other than promoting her new athletic-wear line, she has been doing more acting. She just finished a couple of episodes of "Melissa & Joey," where she took the role of the mother to Joey's daughter. In 'Dancing with the Stars,' she was replaced by Erin Andrews at the beginning of the year. She also said that now she is committed to doing something more creative.
