As anticipation builds for the upcoming sixth season of The Chosen, the cast and crew are opening up about what has been described as their most challenging and emotionally grueling production to date. The new season-covering the sorrow-filled final chapter of Jesus' earthly ministry-required the team to film its heaviest scenes yet, including the crucifixion.
Filmed over the series' longest shooting stretch so far, Season 6 demanded extraordinary emotional and physical endurance from the actors. Shaan Sharma, who plays Shmuel, reflected on the weight of the material:
"It's been really heavy in the sense of watching some of my co-actors go through some of the hardest emotional work they've had to do in the show yet."
Jonathan Roumie Reflects on Filming the Crucifixion
In June, Jonathan Roumie-who portrays Jesus-shared a rare behind-the-scenes moment on Instagram. Pictured standing beside the cross, out of costume and makeup, he offered fans a glimpse into the spiritual and emotional toll of filming the crucifixion sequences.
"These photos will likely be the only glimpse of me out of costume / makeup that I'll be able to share for quite a long time," he wrote.
"Standing next to the cross on which I have become intimately acquainted these last two weeks. In fact, I probably won't get to take photos like these again, given the breakneck schedule and continued intensity of the work ahead."
His comments hint at not only the emotional depth of the scenes but also the fast-paced, relentless schedule behind the production.
