Chart Rewind: Matt Redman’s “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)” Returns to No. 1 in September 2015

In September 2015, worship leader and songwriter Matt Redman once again found himself at the pinnacle of Christian music. His modern hymn "10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)", released in 2011, climbed back to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart, cementing its reputation as one of the most enduring worship anthems of its era.
The song's journey is as remarkable as its message. Co-written with Swedish songwriter Jonas Myrin, "10,000 Reasons" was inspired by Psalm 103, which begins: "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name." The lyrics strike a balance between simplicity and depth, giving worshippers words that are both accessible and theologically rich. Recorded live at Lifest in Wisconsin, its congregational roots were baked into its DNA from the beginning.
Matt Redman, already an established voice in the global worship movement through songs like "Blessed Be Your Name" and "You Never Let Go," found his career-defining moment in "10,000 Reasons." The track earned him two Grammy Awards in 2013 - Best Contemporary Christian Music Song and Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance - a rare crossover recognition for a worship song. It also spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on Hot Christian Songs in 2012 before its chart resurgence in 2015.
The legacy of "10,000 Reasons" reaches far beyond the charts. It quickly became one of the most widely sung worship songs worldwide, translated into multiple languages and included in countless church setlists. The song has been covered by artists across Christian genres, from contemporary pop stylings to choral arrangements, solidifying its place as a modern hymn comparable to "How Great Is Our God" or "Shout to the Lord."
When it returned to No. 1 in September 2015, it was more than just a chart statistic - it was a testament to the song's staying power in both personal devotion and corporate worship. Years later, Redman reflected that the heart of the song wasn't about breaking records but giving the Church a voice to praise God in every circumstance.
Today, "10,000 Reasons" remains one of the most influential worship songs of the 21st century - a reminder that while trends in Christian music rise and fall, certain songs become timeless companions of faith.
