New faith-based movie ‘Home Run’ hits theaters

New faith-based movie ‘Home Run’ hits theaters today, April 19, 2013, in select theaters nationwide.

The film tells the story of a professional baseball player Cory Brand as he deals with addiction to alcohol which is about to ruin his career.

Brand is suspended from the team and encouraged by his agent who wants to save his career to go back to his hometown and coach a youth baseball team while attending a faith-based recovery program.

The message that the movie strives to tell is that ‘change is possible.’

Producer Carol Spann Mathews put the emphasis on the scriptwriting knowing that faith-based movies have generally not so good reputation in Hollywood since they are described as ones with poor storytelling and low production value.

Mathews expressed that director David Boyd (“The Walking Dead”) was attracted to the script and it was Boyd who attracted actor Scott Elrod (Argo), who plays the main role in the ‘Home Run,’ and Vivica A. Fox ("Independence Day") who portrays a sport agent in the movie.
