Hillsong Church Launches an Appeal for Afghanistan
The security and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan deteriorated dramatically and quickly over the weekend. On Sunday, August 15, the Taliban declared the war in Afghanistan over after its fighters took over the capital, Kabul, and President Ashraf Ghani left the country. The situation is complex and rapidly evolving and there is real fear around the unknown and uncertainty for what people will face under the regime. In response to such a dire situation, Hillsong Church has partnered with World Vision to launch an appeal to give aid to those who are suffering in the country right now.
Hillsong's global senior pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston write, "Hey beautiful @hillsong church (& friends). We have a strong history of stepping into crisis and disaster relief. Rally your hearts and let's lean in, in whatever way we can. Thank you. Let's pray and believe for the miraculous to take place.
As a church, we are partnering with World Vision, with whom we have a long-standing relationship, to respond to the unfolding situation in Afghanistan and do what we can to help with an urgent appeal. World Vision has been operating in Afghanistan for the past 20 years, with over 300 staff bringing hope and justice to thousands of the most vulnerable children and their families.
They are on the ground in Afghanistan, responding to the current need by prioritising children and those most vulnerable. Immediate needs for those displaced are shelter, household items, food, sanitation, health services and drinking water."
