Cameron Moore Chats with Hallels About His New Worship EP

cameron moore

Singer and songwriter Cameron Moore has released his brand new worship EP, which features 5 worship songs.  The EP is preceded by the single "Drowning."  We are so honored to be able to catch up with him for this exlusive Hallels' interview.

Hallels:  Thank you for doing this interview with us.  For our readers who may not know much about you, can you briefly tell us a little about your background.

Thank you for having me! Currently, I am a junior in college at UNC Asheville. I was born in Charlotte, NC. I started playing guitar when I was seven years old. When I was fourteen, I joined a small praise band at my church and quickly became the lead singer, despite never singing before. Since then, I've been writing heavily and playing every chance I get. There have had some great musicians in the Charlotte area who have really helped me become the musician and song writer that I am today.

Hallels:  What has inspired you to cut a worship EP?

I think most of my inspiration has simply come from my passion for writing music. I love being able to write and sing whenever I want, and this EP is the result of that. I also frequently lead worship and after spending so much time in that setting, songs of worship and praise just feel natural!

Hallels:  How would you describe your style of music?  And who are your influences?

I think the style of this EP is definitely contemporary Christian. My music is acoustic driven with lyrics that have deep meanings for me personally. I've really been influenced by bands like David Crowder Band, Gungor, and All Sons and Daughters, but I do not think I would put myself in a category with any of them. I feel like I have taken pieces that I like from multiple bands to create who I am as a musician.

Hallels:  Have you come to a decision yet as to what the first single will be?  And if you have, tell us what the single is about?

We are thinking about releasing Drowning as the first single. This song references Ephesians in talking about God's love for us. I wrote it during a period in my life during my freshman year of college when I first realized how much God loved me. I remember thinking about God's love as a never-ending ocean, and how I felt like there was no where I could go to outrun it. This song was my best attempt to put that into lyric form as a praise and worship song.

Hallels:  Are you following up this EP with a full length album soon?

I truly hope so! I don't currently have any definite plans about the next release, but I'm always writing and I'm excited about the thought of releasing a full album in the near future.

Hallels:  Being a worship leader, what's the most challenging part in leading worship?

Early on, the most challenging part for me was learning to worship when I was leading. I felt the need to make sure everyone was doing the right thing or playing the right part, which left me more stressed than anything. As I've gotten older though, leading worship feels really natural to me. I've learned how to actually worship while I lead, rather than being so focused on everything going exactly as planned. The truth is, things will never go exactly as planned, and I've had to learn how to go with the flow when I'm leading. Leading worship now is always enjoyable and I look forward to being able to week after week.
