"Doctor Who" Season 8 Episode 8: The Doctor Saves the Day from the Mummy
The episode eight of the "Doctor Who" season eight premiered on August 23, 2014 on BBC One.
In the previous episode, entitled "Kill the Moon", the doctor goes on a trip with Clara and Courtney. Cinemablend says that there is a big gap between Clara and the doctor in the episode.
They arrive in the year 2049 on a space shuttle to the moon which has one hundreds nuclear bombs. They noticed that the moon has higher gravity and encounters Captain Lundvik. A mass high tide endangered the existence of human and the cause is said to be the moon. And then, an astronaut attempts to prime the bombs, but is tackled by a creature, which resembles a spider.
Soon, they find colonists in spider webs. The doctor discovers through readings that there is an increase on the mass of the moon. This change in mass is the reason behind the abrupt tidal shift. Once again, they are attacked by another spider. It comes to the doctor's realization that the spiders are just germs. In addition, the doctor concludes that the moon is an egg, and a creature inside it is preparing to hatch. Captain Lundvink suggests that they kill it, which is disapproved by Clara. The doctor leaves them so that they can decide things on their own. They contacted the inhabitants of planet Earth to make the decision. People had a unanimous vote to save the planet first. Clara interferes and halts the countdown that will activate the bombs. Meanwhile, the doctor comes back and saves them from the moon. Later, they watch the creature hatch as the shell cracks. The creature lays a new egg as the new moon. Furiously, Clara confronts the doctor and leaves them and TARDIS. She was comforted by Danny.
Episode eight is entitled "Mummy on the Orient Express". In the episode, Clara teams up again with the doctor for a last outing. Then, she will leave the TARDIS and the doctor permanently. They head on the train named the Orient Express. The train travels in space. The doctor finds out that an old woman has been killed by a being that only she could see. The creature was described as an Egyptian Mummy and is also known as the Foretold. The doctor also realizes that the Mummy will only be seen by its target, and it will kill the target in precisely sixty-six seconds.
The train has a computer program called Gus. According to Hufftingtonpost, Gus is a "computerized puppet master" that controls the Foretold. Gus informs the doctor that he has been given the task to catch the Mummy, otherwise, innocent people will die. According to Hypable, the doctor makes himself as a bait to the Mummy. From there, the doctor becomes aware that the Mummy is a dead soldier that is powered by future technology. By surrendering, the doctor releases the Mummy, which saves the train's occupants. After the incident, Clara phones Danny, informing him that she is not yet leaving the doctor.
