'Guardians of the Galaxy' Animated TV Series Release Date: Marvel Television To Deliver Engaging Animated Series Fans Can Enjoy 

After hitting a box office with "Guardians of the Galaxy," Marvel shifts its gear toward an animated series for Disney XD.

The movie premiered in Hollywood on July 21 and was released in theaters on Aug. 1. Since its release this year, the film has become a critical success and has made more than $654 million at the domestic box office.

The hit movie starred Chris Pratt as Peter Quill as or -Lord as he teams up with Zoe Saldana as Gamora the human weapon, Dave Bautista as warrior Drax the Destroyer, along with the voices of Bradley Cooper as Rocket the Raccoon, and Vin Diesel as Groot the tree-like humanoid.

The Marvel television show will feature the team's action-packed adventures as they save the universe from its biggest threats. It is also seen in Marvel's official website that fans can expect to see the "Guardians" join forces with other Marvel characters like Spiderman.

Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb previewed the forthcoming television series in The Hollywood Reporter. "This is a very exciting time for the Marvel Animation Studio as we get to explore the cosmic side of the Marvel universe by developing the first-ever Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy animated series," Loeb said. "After starring in the biggest movie of 2014, everyone wants more of Star-Lord and his crew - now they'll get it," he added.

Marc Buhaj, the senior vice-president of programming and general manager at Disney XD, spoke his expectations working with Marvel. In E! Online, he said, "The movie and franchise quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. We're looking forward to working with the great team at Marvel Television to deliver an engaging animated series that fans can enjoy each week."

The show was announced at New York Comic Con and is set to be executive produced by Alan Fine, Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada, and Jeph Loeb. Stan Lee, Cort Lane, Eric Radomski, and Stephen Wacker are the co-executive producers, together with Marty Isenberg and Harrison Wilcox, serving as supervising producers. Steven Melching will be the show's consulting producer, while Leo Risley is the supervising director.

The upcoming series will premiere in 2015 on the Marvel Universe via Disney XD. The sequel for the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie has already been announced and is set to be released on July 28, 2017.
