The Maze Runner 2 News, Release date: Sequel out to Excite Fans by September 2015, Rosa Salazar, Aidan Gillen Join Cast

The Maze Runner 2 news: Encouraged by the success of The Maze Runner, it's all systems go for The Maze Runner 2, release date of which will be on September 18, 2015.

The Maze Runner sequel stars Dylan O' Brien, who's back as the lead character Thomas. He teams up with American Horror Story and Insurgent alumnus Rosa Salazar, who plays Brenda.

Game of Thrones actor Aidan Gillen, who plays Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish in the popular HBO series, will be The Maze Runner 2's main villain.

Directed by Wes Ball, the Maze Runner is based on the young adult books written by James Dashner.  The books follow the adventures of sixteen-year-old Thomas, who finds himself in a place called The Glade, with no memory of who he is and where he's from. Thomas, along with other boys, attempts to find their way out of an ever-changing maze.

There are four books in The Maze Runner series:  The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, and The Death Cure. The 4th book, Prequel: The Kill Order, delves into the series backstory.

The Maze Runner movie earned an impressive $35 million during its opening week, which was traditionally a lean season at the US box office.
