Nexus 6 Release Date: 5.9-inch Smartphone with Upgraded Specs to Take-Off this 2014

Google's Nexus 6 is set to be head on with Apple's iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 with its massive screen and highly-improved specs.

Its large screen size is 5.9-inches with Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 (2K), competing with a Samsung Note 4 and LG G3. The QHD resolution also gives a pixel density of 496 pixels per inch (ppi), which is an large improvement from Nexus 5's 445ppi.

More to that, the new smartgadget integrates a quad-core Krait 450 CPU at up to 2.7 Ghz per core, Adreno 420 GPU, 4K video support and simultaneous 4K video playback, and a higher-speed 800MHz dual channel 64-bit LPDDR3 RAM. With this specs, Nexus is assumed to exhibit tremendous gains in memory bandwidth and GPU performance by 40%.

Nexus 6 is expected to have a 8 to 13 megapixel rear camera while retaining the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) of Nexus 5. The front camera has 2 megapixels and is assumed to be capable of 720p video.

The new Nexus also addresses the weak external speakers in its last two predecessors. Its stereo speakers, just like the HTC One M8 and M7, will also be front facing.

Nexus 6 will also utilize a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, which takes along high performance hikes, just like the take-off of the Snapdragon 800 in the Nexus 5, together with an improved battery life, just like in the Snapdragon 801 in the HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5. In short, Snapdragon 805 blends both an exceptional performance and longer battery life.

Unlike the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, Nexus 6 is powered with a large 3200 mAh battery. This embodies a substantial 900 mAh increase compared to Nexus 5 battery capacity.

Another major improvement over its Nexus 5 predecessor is the quick charge technology, wherein a 15 minute charge is believed to add eight hours of the standby time.

Google has also announced battery saving feature called Project Volta. This will be a central part of Android L. tests of the developer release on the Nexus 5 generated up to 30% longer battery life.

The Nexus 5 currently costs $349 for the 16GB model and $399 for the 32GB model. The Nexus 6 is expected to have a higher price because of its large size and improved specifications. Nonetheless, it is still expected to come at around half of its competitors' price.

The revolutionary changes in the hardware and software of the Nexus 6 makes it a promising device, considering its size.

Reports in IBTimes UK say that Google will launch the Nexus 6 in the final weeks of the month.
