Samsung Gear S Release Date in the U.S.: Gear S will be Samsung's first smartwatch to make calls without the need of smartphone tethering
Samsung Gear S is coming to the U.S. this fall, according to an official press statement. The South Korean tech giant's (Samsung) smartwatch will be available in Big Four wireless carriers i.e. T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Samsung promised that more information will be provided soon.
The best thing about the Samsung Gear S watch is that it does not have to be paired with a smartphone to operate. It can do many of the things a smartphone can do by itself. it will be compatible with wireless headphones and Bluetooth devices.
Gear S will be Samsung's first smartwatch to make calls without the need of smartphone tethering. Announced at the IFA 2014 in Berlin, it is designed by Samsung to be "revolutionary stylish." The device sports an elegantly curved Super AMOLED display. In addition, it allows flexible customization through clock screen faces and changeable straps. Gear S prides in "a beautiful and easy-to-use user interface," which practically allows information and notification access right at the user's fingertips.
Gear S will come in three connectivity portals: 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Projected to be a seamless communicator, the device will allow users to make and receive calls and messages. The on-screen keyboard is said to host up to 69 languages, hinting on Samsung's global aim.
It is a 2-inch display with 39.9 x 58.1 x 12.5 dimension and it will look nice on your wrist, and its Super AMOLED display will result in brighter colors. If you have a small wrist though, be prepared for a big watch. This is going to be a perfect workout companion thanks to all the sensors and meters on the watch. It will pair well with Samsung's version of a Health app.
Instead of running Android or another predictable operating system the Gear S watch will run Samsung's own OS called Tizen. Tizen already has 1000 apps lined up for when this watch launches
A 300 mAh battery will power the Gear S. Not bad for a watch battery. This should last you at least a day with normal use, maybe even two, before needing to be re-charged.
Mashable reported that Samsung has announced the pricing of Gear S in Australia - which is approximately $443 in the U.S.
