A Benefit for Christian Community Action
Christian Community Action is a faith-based not-for-profit ecumenical social services agency that has provided emergency shelter, transitional housing, food, advocacy and leadership education, training and other support to those who are poor, in particular families that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless for the past 40+ years. CCA works to encourage these in need in their efforts to attain economic self sufficiency and financial independence and to work with them to change systems that perpetuate unemployment / underemployment, homelessness, hunger, poverty and injustice and to promote community building and social change.
For the past 32 years, CCA has distributed food at Thanksgiving, serving up to 2300 families a year. Their "Mothers for Justice" (MFJ) was organized in 1993 as a grass roots advocacy group that seeks to empower women to speak out on and propose solutions to policy and decision makers about issues that affect their community. MFJ has consistently testified before the Connecticut General Assembly on the need to increase funding for safety net programs and on other issues that affect people who are homeless or living below the Federal Poverty Level.
Tickets are $100; $75; $45; $30 and $20 and are on sale at The Shubert Theater Box Office in New Haven or by calling (203) 562-5666 or 1-(888)-736-2663.
