Serena Movie Release Date, News and Updates: Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper play husband and wife in new Drama
Serena is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by author Ron Rash and stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. A new trailer has been released online, and can be viewed below.
Lawrence play the titular character Serene Pemberton, while Cooper plays her husband George Pemberton. The movie takes place in depression-era North Carolina and has the Pembertons running a timber empire. George struggles to maintain the future of his empire, and things just get worse when he finds out that his wife is unable to bear children. Serena later finds out that her husband has another child from another woman, and the drama ensues.
Lawrence and Cooper have previously worked in David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook, which has more of a light-hearted and humorous tone, in Serena however, it looks as though this might just be their darkest collaboration. The film is directed by Susanne Bier, who won an Oscar for Foreign Language Film for 'In a Better World,' back in 2011.
The film was originally going to be directed by Darren Aronofsky and would have starred Angelina Jolie for the leading role. He was later replaced by Bier, and then she cast Lawrence as Serena. Lawrence, having read the script, gave a copy to Cooper and asked him if he would like to work with her for the film. He agreed and Bier cast him as George. This would be the third time that Lawrence and Cooper will be playing lovers in a film.
Serena will debut at the BFI London Film Festival on October 13, and will open the following day in the U.K. No U.S. release date has been announced yet.
