Hannibal Season 3 Spoilers, News, Cast, and Updates: Gillian Anderson joins cast as Series Regular
Actress Gillian Anderson has been promoted as series regular for Hannibal Season 3 as Dr. Bedelia du Maurier, reports TVLine.
For that last two seasons, Dr. du Maurier has made some brief, but intriguing appearances throughout the show. She was first introduced as Hannibal's (Mads Mikkelsen) psychiatrist, slightly hinting that the two may have had a romantic relationship, in season 2 she became a target for Hannibal, she successfully escaped from him. By the end of Season 2, spoiler ahead, it was revealed that she has been conspiring with Hannibal. She was last seen with Hannibal on an airplane going to Italy.
Anderson being promoted to a series regular is not much of a surprise, seeing that it has been confirmed that the first half of Season 3 we will see Hannibal and herself will be hiding together in Italy from the FBI, bearing false identities.
"...going to be exploring [du Maurier] quite a bit in the first half of the season," creator Bryan Fuller explained to Roth Cornet at IGN. "There's a whole Bedelia/Hannibal arc that I'm very excited about."
Another thing fans of the show will be excited about is that the second half of season 3 will be based off of 'Red Dragon.' Red Dragon is the novel by Thomas Harris wherein he first introduces the character of Hanibal Lecter. The book has been adapted to film twice; "Manhunter" was released in 1987, and "Red Dragon" which stars Edward Norton as Will Graham back in 2002. The story will be about a serial killer only known as 'The Tooth Fairy' murdering entire families across the states.
Hannibal Season 3 will premiere sometime in early 2015 on NBC.
