Penny Dreadful New Cast: Patti LuPone Joins, With New Cast Members
Initial report from Variety confirms the addition of Broadway icon and Tony winner Patti LuPone in Showtime's hit show, the supernatural period drama "Penny Dreadful" that stars Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Helen McCrory and more. LuPone has also been seen in the horror series "American Horror Story: Coven" and HBO's "Girls."
The Broadway legend will be portraying a mysterious character with a strange connection and high importance to Vanessa, played by Eva Green. We wonder what could that connection be. And why is she so important to Vanessa? Is she someone from Vanessa's past or does she hold some key to her future? We will eventually find out when the upcoming season premieres.
We will have to wait longer though, as production for "Penny Dreadful" is scheduled to start this month in Dublin with 10 episodes and will premiere in an unannounced date by next year. Episodes are written by "Skyfall" writer John Logan.
Aside from LuPone, joining her as new cast members are fellow Tony winner Douglas Hodge (Scottish Yard investigator Bartholomew Rusk), Sarah Greene (Hecate - daughter of Helen McCrory's Madame Kali) and Jonny Beauchamp (young man with a singular past).
Meanwhile, Helen McCrory and Simon Russell Beale; who are portraying the characters of the spiritualist Madame Kali and Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle have been announced recently to be series regulars for season 2, according to Showtime.
