Real Steel 2 Release Date, News and Updates: Director Shawn Levy has been Developing the Sequel

It's been three years since Real Steel came out, and people have been wondering if the sequel will ever be made. Speaking with ComingSoon, director Shawn Levy reveals that he's been developing the sequel for years now.

"We have been quietly developing a sequel to 'Real Steel' for three and a half years. We've come up with some great scripts but Hugh and I would only make it if the plot feels fresh, but also the character journeys feel fresh, and we've found both but never at the same time. It's ongoing. I know the clock is ticking. That movie, weirdly, for a movie that did very well globally--it did okay domestically--but the love for 'Real Steel' remains kind of unique as far as rabid fans who ask me all the time for another one. Hugh and I love that movie so if we can crack it, we'll make it, but I have this sense that we better make that happen soon or frankly, the audience may not be there in the same way. So we shall see."

It would be interesting to see where the 'Real Steel' sequel is going, for the first film really was a good film. It performed well enough in the box office, and it seems like the film has its own fan base. If 'Real Steel 2' is happening, it's best that Levy stays for it and get the original cast members, including Hugh Jackman, back as well.

Right now though, Levy has been promoting his new film 'This Is Where I leave You' which is a drama-comedy starring Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, and Connie Britton and will be released on September 19. Another film he directed is 'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb' which is currently in post-production and will premiere on December 19, 2014.
