Now You See Me 2 Release Date, News and Rumors: Sequel Gets Official Release Date
Lionsgate has officially announced their 2016 release date for Now You See Me 2. It is scheduled to released on June 10, 2016, the same weekend as the first film debuted back in 2013.
The summer release of June 2016 is really a daring move by Lionsgate if other films being released are to be considered. It will go head to head with Sony's videogame adaptation of Unchartered, a week before that Teenage Mutant ninja Turtles, and a week after that will be Disney's highly anticipated Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory. Another entry for a June 2016 release date is the reboot of The Mummy which is set to be released two weeks after Now You See Me 2. If the studio plays the right cards, the sequel should do well against these other films.
Now You See Me 2 will be directed by GI Joe 2 director Jon M. Chu with a script written by Ed Solomon and Pete Chiarelli. The details on the plot of the sequel is still being kept under wraps, but it would be a safe assumption that it will take place shortly after where the last film ended.
The original 2013 was a surprise hit. With a budget of $73 Million, it grossed over $351 Million worldwide. Shortly after, Lionsgate announced that the sequel will be in the works and filming will begin sometime in 2014. It starred Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Melanie Laurent, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. All of them will reprise their respective roles for Now You See Me 2.
