Doctor Strange Movie Release date, Cast, News, Rumors and Update: Joaquin Phoenix in Final Talks To Play Sorcerer Supreme

The Collider reports that according to their source, Joaquin Phoenix is in final negotiations to play Doctor Strange for the upcoming film.

The rumor mill started rolling a month ago that Phoenix was in heavy consideration to play the Sorcerer Supreme. When that rumor wasn't given any confirmation from marvel, another rumor circulated that Jack Huston was under consideration. Now, that rumor has been debunked and has no truth behind it.

Marvel's third phase in their cinematic universe will be kick off by Ant-Man following the premiere of the highly-anticipated Avengers Age of Ultron. After that, Captain America 3 the following year in May 2016, then Doctor Strange on July 2016. There is still a lot of room for changes, and negotiations that can happen until Doctor Strange's release, but it seems as though fans have already voiced their approval for the choice of Joaquin Phoenix. No one can really blame them. Joaquin Phoenix has proven that he is one phenomenal actor in such films like The Master and last year's extraordinary film Her.

It would seem that the casting of Phoenix would entail such a big commitment, knowing that Marvel likes to think ahead and sign actors for multiple films. This might be a huge factor for Phoenix who will undoubtedly would want freedom to make other films other than just what Marvel wants him to be in.

In any case, Doctor Strange will come with (preferably) or without Joaquin Phoenix being cast.

Doctor Strange hits theaters July 8, 2016.
