Harry Potter Spin-Off ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' Brings Back David Yates to the Wizarding World
David Yates is officially back in the wizarding world as he will helm the Harry Potter spin-off, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." David Yates has directed the fifth all through the eight installment in the Harry Potter movies, and after the franchise it seems he won't be involved in any Harry Potter-related films anymore. But surprise, surprise, he's tapping into his magical hands again to tell Newt Scamander's story.
According to a Variety report, Yates is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to direct the Potter-based trilogy. And while it hasn't been finalized, Yates has already given his approval. It seems that J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros.wanted a trusted and familiar name to undertake this massive new franchise, and efficiently keep the one-of-a-kind magic of the Potter universe.
The film will center on Newt Scamander, the explorer and author of "Fantastic Beasts" - a reference guide to magical beasts and his exciting adventures. Set around 1920, which is 70 years before Harry Potter came into the wizarding world.
Yates is currently in the middle of filming for Tarzan, starring Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie. After it wraps up; he will then move on to start with "Fantastic Beasts,"with filming to commence in New York.
"Fantastic Beasts" will also be J.K. Rowling's screenwriting debut, as she revisits the wizarding world. David Heyman, who produced all Potter films is also returning to produce "Fantastic Beasts."
And although Potterheads won't get to see Harry, Ron and Hermione in this extension of the wizarding world; don't lose hope because just like David Yates returning, there could be some surprises in store.
The first film will be released November 18, 2016.
