Elizabeth Holmes is the founder of the blood-testing startup Theranos, and she is back in the headlines because of a new documentary about her life before prison.

Holmes founded Theranos in 2003 and served as its CEO. She became known for claiming the company had built a small machine that could run many medical tests from one drop of blood. At one point, Theranos was valued at more than $9 billion. Prosecutors argued the machine was wildly inaccurate and that Holmes knew it.

A federal jury convicted her in 2022 of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud against investors. She was not convicted of defrauding patients. She was sentenced to 11 years and three months, and an appeals court confirmed the conviction in February 2025.

Her sentence has since been reduced to 10 years and three months. The Federal Bureau of Prisons lists her release date as February 22, 2030. Forbes reported she is scheduled to move to a transitional center in Texas on August 23, 2027.

The film, You Can See Everything, comes from Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. It features Holmes, her partner Billy Evans, and their two children. It opened in theaters on October 16, 2026, and no streaming date has been announced.

Her story keeps drawing attention because it asks lasting questions about honesty, ambition and what accountability looks like. It also raises the question many people of faith think about: what a genuine second chance requires.
