Randy Phillips Asks Fans For Prayer After His Father Announced His Lymphoma To Church He Pastors
Randy Phillips of the classic Christian group, Phillips, Craig & Dean, asked fans for prayers on Twitter after his father, Kenneth Phillips, announced his lymphoma to the church where he is the pastor.
In the morning on June 6, Phillips tweeted, "My dad announced to his church last night that he has lymphoma. Pray for him & my family. Send thoughts to @kennethphillips. Great man!"
Kenneth Phillips, and his wife, Wanda Phillips, have pastored PromiseLand Church in Austin, Texas for over 41 years and have made a great impact on their church community, according to the PromiseLand Church website. Since they began their ministry in the church over 18,000 people have been baptized in Jesus' Name and people have been touched on a world-wide scale through radio and television broadcasts, print literature and crusades.
Philips, Craig and Dean released their most recent album, 'Breathe In,' in March 2012. This album features hit worship songs such as they're greatest worship success to date, 'Great I Am.'
In a preview of the album, the band members discussed the way that writing the album had impacted them as well as the way in which they hope it will impact others. "Our new album, 'Breathe In,' just through what we've been through in our own personal lives the last few years, has been a time of renewed passion for what we do, renewed passion for life, renewed passion for our marriages and for our families," said Dan Dean.
The album deals with the theme of God's mighty power overcoming all obstacles in our lives. "One thing that we keep hearing throughout the lyrics is the greatness of God and our hope, at least my hope, is that as we sing these songs people might be lifting up their eyes from circumstances, from the chaos of life and maybe a pressing economy," said Shawn Craig. He hopes that, "with the songs like 'Speechless,' 'Great, Great God,' that as people hear those that they might lift up their eyes and seek God and then, maybe their problems will look a little smaller."
Philips explained the purpose behind the album saying, "'Breath-In' is just about taking a big breath of oxygen. It seems like people are so deflated, spiritually deflated, mentally deflated in their hope. In this album we hope to say 'breathe in, take a deep breath of God and let it expand your soul, let it bring you hope, and let God deposit something heavenly in your earthen vessel.'" Dean added to this idea saying, "There are so many people walking around in the world today, their breathing, but they're not alive."
The theme of hope in 'Breathe In' is both fitting and encouraging in the hardship that Phillips, himself, and his family have been experiencing.
