Gospel icon Kirk Franklin has entered a new partnership with Uptown Records, marking a fresh chapter for the 20-time Grammy winner as the historic label celebrates its 40th anniversary relaunch.

The deal, announced September 8, brings Franklin's own Fo Yo Soul Entertainment label and TRIBL Music Group into partnership with Uptown Records. "To be a part of the Uptown family is a genuine honor," Franklin said in a press release. "I feel energized by the entire team's enthusiasm and support already. It's a blessing, and I'm beyond thankful and excited for what the future holds. Let's make history together!"

Uptown executives were equally enthusiastic about the partnership. "No one has shaped gospel and sustained its influence from one decade to the next quite like Kirk Franklin," said Natina Nimene, Uptown's EVP of Urban Audience & Artist Relations. Phil Thornton of TRIBL Music Group called Franklin's legacy and cultural impact "undeniable."

To celebrate the announcement, Franklin released the music video for his latest single, "Thank You For Everything," featuring gospel legend Karen Clark Sheard of the Clark Sisters. The video made its broadcast debut live on BET Her.

Founded in 1986 by the late Andre Harrell, Uptown Records helped launch the careers of Mary J. Blige, Jodeci and Heavy D during its 1980s-90s heyday. Franklin now joins the label's newly rebuilt roster as part of its ongoing revival.
