Power Rangers Movie Release Date: Happening on July 22, 2016 Says Lionsgate
Get yourselves ready fans, Power Rangers is officially getting a reboot two years from now in July, as confirmed by Lionsgate recently with screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to recreate the much-loved teenage superheroes of the 1990s.
Miller and Stentz are known for their screenwriting work with big franchises such as Thor and X-men sequels. And to be produced by Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Allison Shearmur and Roberto Orci.
Fans might remember the 1995 film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, about the high school superheroes battling Ivan Ooze who was set for revenge against Zordon for incarcerating him millions of years ago. The heroes finding themselves defenseless decided to set for a space journey to find a warrior named Dulcea. And the 1997 film titled Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie directed by David Winning and Shuki Levy, with the story revolving on a wizard named Lerigot who is being hunted by Divatox for his golden key.
Fans can watch out for a modern re-envisioning of the Power Rangers origins, and will bring back the team of teenagers as they are upskilled and charged with extraterrestrial powers to defend and save the Earth from all kinds of evil.
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers were first seen on August 28, 1993 on Fox Kids and quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, inspiring action figures, toys and theatrical films as mentioned above. Most of the TV series footages came from Toei Company's Japanese series called Super Sentai.
No director or cast has been named as of yet. With the confirmed date, it will likely face foes such as King Arthur, Independence Day 2, Bourne 5, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes sequel who are all slated for the same release date.
