During a May book-signing event for her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, Panettiere revealed that she still had a "laundry list" of dreams waiting to be fulfilled. Far from believing that she had already reached her professional peak, the former child star wanted to step behind the camera and create the kind of supportive working environment she believed actors deserved.
"I would love to direct," Panettiere shared. "I really want to direct and be that person that creates a safe environment for actors." She also hoped to produce and try her hand at writing-anything creative that would allow her to generate her own opportunities instead of sitting around and waiting for Hollywood to call with another role.
Even more heartbreaking were the optimistic comments Panettiere made during an appearance on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast. After years of publicly documented personal struggles, the actress said she finally felt as though she had escaped the "darkness" and negativity that had followed her.
