"A world without Dolly doesn't feel possible, real, or right," Swift said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. She added that Parton's extraordinary generosity and the countless lives she changed ensured that her legacy would be everlasting.
Swift described Parton as "true grace and true grit, all in one dazzling person," praising both her tenderness toward struggling people and her "backbone of steel" when defending her worth as an artist. On July 3-the day Swift and Kelce married at Madison Square Garden-Parton appeared in an all-white outfit to thank the newlyweds for donating an astonishing $2 million to her Imagination Library. The literacy program, founded by Parton in 1995, has distributed more than 200 million free books to children around the world.
"Taylor and Travis, it's Dolly," she began, revealing that she had just learned about the couple's gift.
