The Spongebob Squarepants Movie 2 Sponge Out of Water News, Details and Updates
The Spongebob Squarepants Movie: Sponge out of Water will be the second film based off of the successful children's television show from Nickelodeon.
Back in 2004, The Spongebob Squarepants Movie was released by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies much to the joy of both adult and child fans. It grossed over $140 million worldwide and is considered to be a success. In the Loas Angeles Times back in 2011, it was first reported that a new Spongebob film was in development, and on February 2012 it was finally confirmed by Viacom (Paramount's parent company) CEO Philippe Dauman that a new Spongebob film will be released sometime in 2014 adding that it will serve to be the start of their new animation effort. The official title of the new film was announced back in June 10, 2014.
At the San Diego Comic-Con back in July, Paramount Pictures released a short footage from the new film at their presentation in Hall H which was hosted by Spongebob's voice actor Tom Kenny. On July 31 the first trailer of the film was released. Animated series creator Stephen Hillenberg serves as executive producer as well as co-writer for the new film.
The film will star series regulars Tom Kenny (Spongebob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Roger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy), and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton). The movie will also feature a new character Burger-Beard the Pirate played by Antonio Banderas.
The film will be about Spongebob and his friends tracking down a stolen recipe and a book that can change things when it is written on it which brings them to the real world. They discover that the book is in the possession of Burger-Beard the Pirate.
The film is currently in post-production and is expected to finish by November 2014 for a release date of February 9, 2015 avilable in digital 3D.
