Actress Ruby Rose is recovering after a backyard accident sent her to the hospital with multiple broken ribs - a scary reminder of how quickly an ordinary afternoon can turn into an emergency room visit.
What happened
Rose, 40, was watering her garden near her pool when she lost her footing on the ledge, fell backward into the water, and struck her side on the way down. She shared the moment on Instagram Stories, then gave fans a blunt update on Threads: "One second I'm here talking to you. The next I'm in the hospital with two broken ribs. What a bloody Monday." She later clarified the injury involved multiple ribs, joking, "RIP to my ribs, and the rest of my summer."
The injury forced her to use a breathing machine during recovery and left her asking fans for "good book and show recommendations" to get through what she expects will be several weeks of healing.
Who is Ruby Rose?
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Rose first became known locally as an MTV Australia presenter and model before crossing into Hollywood. She earned international recognition playing Stella Carlin on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black, then took the lead role of Kate Kane in The CW's Batwoman in 2019 - a role that ended in serious injury.
While filming a stunt for that series, Rose suffered two herniated discs and came dangerously close to a spinal injury, requiring emergency surgery. She's since spoken candidly about the toll that accident took, including entering a trauma facility in 2021 to process what happened. Reflecting on this week's pool accident, she couldn't help but compare the two: "What in the actual dissociation... did I do, to return to work on Batwoman, the day after breaking my rib and neck?"
Rose has also appeared in major action and comedy films including John Wick: Chapter 2, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and Pitch Perfect 3.
For now, she's off her feet and leaning on her online community to get through recovery - a smaller-scale scare, but a real one.
JubileeCast wishes her a full and speedy healing.
