Carrie Underwood may be one of country music's biggest stars, but when it comes to raising her two sons, Isaiah and Jacob, the Grammy-winning singer says fame isn't the lesson she wants them to remember.

Instead, Underwood revealed that she and her husband, former NHL player Mike Fisher, are committed to teaching their boys a simple principle they believe will serve them for life: work hard, no matter what you do.

Speaking in an interview with Taste of Country Nights, first reported by Taste of Country, Underwood said that while her family now enjoys a life many only dream about, she wants her children to understand that success wasn't simply handed to their parents.

"Whatever you do, just work hard at it," Underwood said. "That is to be respected, and it will never lead you astray. You might not be an overnight success, but only good things can come out of working really hard for the right things, so that's what we want to teach them. I feel like more than anything we definitely want to plant seeds that were planted in us."

The "Jesus, Take the Wheel" singer explained that both she and Fisher were raised in hardworking, middle-class families where dedication and perseverance were everyday values. Although they always had what they needed growing up, neither came from wealth, making their current success something they deeply appreciate rather than take for granted.

"We both grew up without... we had enough, but we weren't in our position now, like our parents weren't in our position," Underwood shared. "We saw them work really hard to give us what we needed and instill those hardworking values in us, and I think that's the biggest thing that we want to pass along to our boys."

For Underwood, those lessons extend far beyond careers or financial success. She believes learning discipline, perseverance and respect for hard work will prepare her sons for whatever path they choose in life, regardless of whether they ever follow their famous parents into the spotlight.

The candid comments offer another glimpse into the singer's grounded approach to family life. Despite selling millions of albums, winning multiple Grammy Awards and becoming one of country music's most recognizable voices, Underwood has consistently spoken about keeping her family rooted in faith, gratitude and humility.

Rather than raising children who expect success because of their parents' fame, Underwood and Fisher are intentionally emphasizing character over celebrity. Their goal, she said, is to pass on the same values that shaped their own lives long before either became household names.

The parenting revelation comes as Underwood continues a lighter performance schedule in 2026. Instead of embarking on a major tour, the singer is making select festival appearances and special-event performances, giving her more opportunities to spend time with her family while continuing to delight fans across the country.

While fans know Carrie Underwood as a chart-topping entertainer, at home she says her most important role is being a mother-and ensuring her sons understand that integrity, perseverance and hard work remain more valuable than fame itself.
