Faith-based drama Jesus Freaks is drawing attention for its timely exploration of spiritual searching, revival, and church tension as audiences increasingly engage conversations surrounding faith and meaning in a restless cultural moment.

Directed by filmmaker Nina May and starring Kevin Sorbo and Sam Sorbo, the film revisits the Jesus Movement of the 1970s through an East Coast setting in Florida, offering a fresh perspective on one of the most significant spiritual awakenings in modern American history.

Currently streaming on Faith Channel, the film follows the story of a young woman whose encounter with the Holy Spirit transforms her life while creating tension within traditional church structures skeptical of charismatic expressions of faith.

Speaking during the National Religious Broadcasters Convention, Kevin Sorbo said the film resonates strongly with younger generations searching for purpose and truth.

"I think people are searching," Sorbo shared. "People are reaching that rock bottom ... they're going, 'There's got to be something better than this.'"

The actor pointed particularly to young adults navigating cultural uncertainty, disappointment, and disillusionment in the aftermath of recent global upheaval.

"There's that group like 18- to 25-year-olds right now that's saying, 'We were lied to ... there's got to be a better thing and a better place to go,'" he said. "They're very dissatisfied."

According to the filmmakers, Jesus Freaks intentionally moves beyond conventional faith-based storytelling by addressing difficult questions surrounding revival, spiritual gifts, and institutional resistance within the Church.

"It does kind of challenge you to think a little bit outside the box," said Chip Rossetti, director of content acquisition and distribution for Faith Channel. "We don't want to just keep putting movies out there that placate the Church. We want to put movies out there that challenge."

The project is based in part on director Nina May's own experiences during the Jesus Movement and reflects the era's themes of repentance, renewal, and radical faith commitment. Unlike recent films centered on the California revival movement, Jesus Freaks highlights the spread of spiritual awakening along the East Coast.

The cast also includes Ashley Hibbs and Braeden Sorbo. The film is currently available through Faith Channel as well as additional streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video, SalemNOW, and Tubi.
