Millions saw the post. Almost none of them checked where it came from.

If your timeline exploded this week with headlines about Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco getting a divorce - you're not alone. But before you believe it, here's what actually happened.

Where the Rumor Came From

The speculation began when an account on X posting under the name "Hoops Crave" asserted that "Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez are reportedly getting a divorce," accompanied by a photo of the couple. The post spread fast. Within hours, it reportedly crossed 2.3 million views, 900 comments, and 11,000 likes - with users flooding the comments asking "Is this true?" while others claimed they "saw it coming."

Here's the problem: a closer look at the account reveals its bio explicitly describes it as a parody page - "Craving Hoops Culture | parody account not affiliated with @PopCrave." That disclaimer signals it is not a legitimate entertainment news source. The account's branding closely mirrors the popular entertainment news outlet Pop Crave, which is precisely what caused so much confusion.

A second wave of rumors followed, including an unverified screenshot of an alleged Instagram Story supposedly from Gomez claiming she was "single" and "focusing on herself." No such post currently exists on Gomez's official Instagram profile, and there is no verifiable record of it in Instagram's public-facing archives.

Additional claims about cheating allegations and Gomez moving out of their shared Los Angeles home were also traced back to unverified social media accounts with no credible sourcing.

The Facts: They Are Still Married

Neither Selena Gomez nor Benny Blanco has publicly confirmed a breakup or divorce. As of April 17, 2026, both individuals' verified social media accounts remain active with no statements addressing the rumors.

In fact, the evidence points clearly the other way. In a recent Instagram post, Gomez shared multiple photos with Blanco captioned simply "Mrs. Blanco" - a post that remains visible on her verified account. She also dedicated a March post to Blanco for his birthday, writing, "Happy birthday my love. I love you with all my heart."

In the United States, divorce filings are public records typically accessible through county court systems. No such filings involving Gomez or Blanco have been reported or documented in any official database.

The couple married in an intimate ceremony in Santa Barbara, California in September 2025, and have continued to make public appearances and share affectionate moments since.

Why This Matters

This isn't the first time Selena Gomez has been the target of viral misinformation - and it likely won't be the last. For someone who has spoken openly about the emotional toll of public scrutiny, living with lupus, and protecting her mental health, having false divorce rumors reach millions of people in a matter of hours is a real and painful reality.

it's a worthwhile reminder to pause before sharing - and to extend the same grace to public figures that we would want extended to ourselves. Proverbs 11:9 puts it plainly: "With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors." Words - and shares - carry weight.

The verdict: Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are not divorced. The rumor is false.
