Google Smart Lens : An Eye Lens That Can Measure Your Blood Sugar Level And Correct Vision Using Auto-focus Technology

Technology has evolved over the years with great innovations coming up every day. The new Google Smart lens is nothing short of amazing. This new interesting piece of tech has been created by Zurich-Novartis and Google Inc. The two joined forces to create a smart eye lens that monitors blood sugar levels and also one that corrects vision in some way. This latest series of technology is designed to monitor the body's functioning. Alcon eye care division says that they would license and commercialize the smart lens apparently for the two companies.

Google unveiled the smart lens in January with the aim of adding more technology and software products used to monitor health and fitness. This was during the debut of the Google Fit platform that track health metrics such as sleep and exercises on devices running its Android mobile operation system.

The lens has a tiny sensor that relays data on glucose contained in tears via an equally tiny antenna. Google describes the electronics in the lenses in earlier news released this year as being "so small they are like bits of glitter" they also said that the antenna is thinner than human hair. Novartis Chief Executive Joe Jimenez said that the move towards wearable health technology like the smart lenses was part of a broader trend to getting patients in getting more involved with their own health issues. This technology is seen to have the potential to lower the cost of managing chronic diseases.

People with diabetes have a hard time regulating their glucose levels by pricking their fingers for droplets of blood however, this can be really easy and more comprehensive with the use of this technology. Mr. Jimenez said "This will be a very important growth area in the future," in an interview. He also added that the smart lens technology has the potential of becoming a large revenue stream for the company. He said that the lens may be used to correct vision in a manner similar to the lenses on autofocus cameras.

This is with no doubt one of the most fascinating form of technology and we can't wait to see what it can do for its users and the potential that it holds.
