'The Best of Me' Movie Review: Nicholas Sparks Shows Endless Love
The romantic drama film "The Best of Me" has just been released last Oct. 17, 2014 in theaters and cinemas. As of 26 Oct. 2014, the movie has grossed an estimated total of $19 million, combining the estimated domestic gross of $17 million and the estimated foreign gross of $1.9 million.
The Best of Me is an American romantic drama film, which is based from the novel of the same name authored by Nicholas Sparks. The film chronicles the story of Dawson and Amanda, two former high school sweethearts who found themselves reunited after 20 years. The two met each other again in their small town for the funeral of their beloved friend. Their reunion rekindles their love for each other. The epic love story highlights the power of the first unconditional love.
The movie stars James Marsden as Dawson Cole and Michelle Monaghan as Amanda Collier with Luke Bracey as young Dawson, Liana Alberto as young Amanda.
Other members of the cast includes, Sebastian Arcelus as Frank Reynolds, Gerald McRaney as Tuck, Jon Tenney as Harvey Collier, Caroline Goodall as Evelyn, Ian Nelson as Jared, Ian Nelson as Jared, Schuyler Fisk as Older April, Rob Mello as Ted Cole, Hunter Bruker as Abee Cole, and Sean Bridgers as Tommy Cole.
Initially, Paul Walker was also to star in the film, as per The Hollywood Reporter. However, the actor passed away due to a car accident last November 2013, placing Marsden into the role.
Nicholas Sparks presents hallmarks of his story, as revealed in the USA Today. The hallmarks include kindly elders, terminal illnesses, clueless to cruel parents, a caring hunk, a sweet woman. There are also playful swimming scenes, slow dancing, and lovemaking that concentrates on faces and not body parts.
Furthermore, Roger Ebert presents tragic incidents such as bad things occurring if a vehicle waits as the lights begin to flash at a train crossing or a parent hosting a fancy party asks his daughter's poor suitor to check his collection of cars, just to mention a few.
The film is piloted and produced by Michael Hoffman, with Justin urns, Denise Di Novi, Alison Greenspan, and Ryan Kavanaugh as co-producers. Will Fetters and J. Mills Goodloe contribute as writers, with Oliver Stapleton in cinematography.
The filming began last April 30 in the downtown Covington area while principal photography took place last March 6, 2014 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The film is produced under Di Novi Pictures and is distributed by Relativity Media.
