Dr. Payen was speaking during an interview on French Radio station RTL, "I have noted some progress but I would say we should give him time. It's like for other patients, we are on a timescale which goes from one year to three years and we need to be patient." During the time of the accident the forensic experts at the site of the incident concluded that he was indeed going very fast at the speed of a very experienced skier.

He had to be placed in a medically induced coma in order to reduce the swelling on his brain for a period of 6 months before being transferred to a rehab clinic in Lausanne. French F1 commentator Jean Louis Moncet told Europe 1 radio station: "I saw his son and he told me that Schumi is waking up very slowly; very slowly." Moncet has retracted a statement implying the GoPro equipment Schumacher had donned during the time of the accident. According to him, it may have worsened his injuries taking into account the he had it on when he took the nasty spill down the alps. Of course, GoPro were quick to rebuff the implications and it has since been taken off the table of issues concerning the accident. At this point, the Schumacher's seem content to ensuring Michael will eventually go back to his normal life.
