A children's sleepover at a family home near the royal Sandringham Estate became the setting of a murder investigation after Dr. Hannah Cain, a mother of three reportedly involved in treating members of the British royal family, was found dead. Her husband, Mark Cain, has now been charged with her murder.

The 45-year-old doctor was discovered at the couple's home in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday, October 4. Prosecutor Jacqui Hanlon told Norwich Magistrates' Court that paramedics found her upstairs, unconscious and not breathing, and that children were inside the property.

Disturbing medical details emerged during Wednesday's hearing. Prosecutors said Cain had suffered a blunt force injury to her head and an additional injury potentially consistent with compression of her neck. The findings form part of the prosecution's account; her husband has been charged, and the allegations have yet to be tried.

Mark Cain, also 45, appeared before magistrates on October 7 and was remanded in custody. He was not asked to enter a plea, and the case was sent to King's Lynn Crown Court for a further hearing scheduled for Thursday.

The proximity to Sandringham and reports of the doctor's royal work have drawn national attention to the case. Cain, known professionally as Dr. Hannah Terry, worked at Grimston Medical Centre and was reportedly among doctors available to care for members of the royal family. Her home stood just over a mile from Sandringham House.

For her family, the loss centers on a devoted mother and a physician whose care reached many patients. In a statement, relatives described her as "kind, generous and loving" and expressed pride in her dedication to those who knew her as Dr. Terry. They also requested privacy as they mourn.

The reported sleepover adds a particularly painful dimension to the circumstances surrounding her death. Authorities have confirmed that children were present, but the cited court reporting does not establish what they witnessed. Specialist officers are supporting the bereaved family while the criminal proceedings continue.
